What is a P-Shot?

The P-Shot, also known as Priapus Shot, is an injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the penis to treat sexual dysfunction. The PRP is obtained from your own blood and contains growth factors that promote the healing and regeneration of tissue.

Indications for the P-Shot

The P-Shot is based on platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which has been studied for treating chronic health issues as well as muscle and joint injuries. It has also been used as an alternate treatment in the following cases:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Lichen sclerosis
  • Peyronie’s disease
  • Penis enhancement
  • General sexual function, performance, and orgasm enhancement

Preparation for the P-Shot

A physical examination is performed by your doctor to check for any medical issues and laboratory blood tests may also be ordered to make sure you have healthy blood, platelets, and plasma. This is a good time to discuss any concerns or questions you have with your doctor.

Procedure for the P-Shot

The P-Shot is an outpatient procedure and generally involves the following:

  • You will be asked to lie down on a procedure table.
  • The doctor will apply cream or ointment to numb the genital area and also administer local anesthesia.
  • A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm.
  • The platelet-rich plasma is obtained by centrifuging or spinning the blood sample for a few minutes.
  • The PRP is then injected into the penile shaft. Up to 4 to 5 injections may be administered within the span of a few minutes.

Risk and Complication of P-Shot

Some of the side effects from the injection that should go away in about four to six days include:

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Scarring

Post Procedure Care

You should be able to return to your usual activities, such as work or school, the same day or the next day. To prevent infection of the injection sites, you should avoid sexual activity for a few days following the procedure. Also, avoid strenuous physical activity for a few days so that the area is not irritated by sweating or chafing.

Advantages of the P-Shot

Some of the advantages of the P-Shot treatment includes:

  • Increased sensitivity in the penis
  • Improved overall blood flow to the penis
  • Increased penile length and girth
  • Easier to achieve and maintain erections
  • No allergic reactions as the PRP is obtained from your own body
